What is ScreenLabs?

ScreenLabs is a professional development workshop program that takes original dramatic scripted material in real world low-budget production circumstances and workshops the script. The program fosters collaboration between the writer, director, producer, talent and crew to realize the script or portion of the script on screen. The purpose is to give all artists and talent involved the hands-on experience of working with the screenwriter and realizing the script in production.

Over the years ScreenLabs has produced a dozen productions, shown in festivals all over the US, won prizes, and have appeared on Public Television and the Independent Film Channel. Screenlabs productions also serve as a showcase or sample work for all of the talent involved.

ScreenLabs provides the screenwriter with advisory support throughout the project, a contract with AFTRA/SAG to allow use of union talent, a small cash budget for expendables, and access to in-kind contributions for production and post-production.

ScreenLabs Thanks You!

ScreenLabs thanks everyone who has made this program possible.

ScreenLabs has been previously supported by grants from the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council with funding from the Minnesota State Legislature. Significant portions of the production costs come from the tremendous support of the Minnesota Film & Video industry in the form of in-kind donations.
